Ce matin, la dix-septième Congrégation générale du Synode africain a été présidée par le Cardinal Francis Arinze, en présence du Pape et de 217 Pères. Tout d'abord a été lue une lettre préparée par les Présidents de l'assemblée et par le Secrétaire général du Synode, à l'adresse des Présidents des Conférences épiscopales du Soudan, d'Ouganda, du Tchad, de la RD Congo et de Centre-Afrique. En voici le texte: "Dans les diocèses situés dans la région des Grands Lacs le conflit qui perdure provoque destruction, violence et mort parmi les populations. Forcés de tout abandonner pour sauver leur vie, des centaines de milliers d'innocents fuient vers les pays confinant où ils se trouvent dans des conditions extrêmement précaires. Le phénomène des enfants soldats, la situation des orphelins, des mutilés et des malades physiques comme psychiques sont tout aussi préoccupants. Face à ce drame, les Pères synodaux...tiennent à manifester leur totale communion fraternelle avec les évêques des régions concernées. En accord avec le Pape, ils implorent les parties en cause de faire taire au plus tôt les armes pour engager des tractations de paix. Tous les problèmes peuvent être résolus par le dialogue, dans la paix et le respect, alors que la guerre aggrave la situation en transformant des frères en ennemis à abattre. Au nom de l'Esprit saint, nous réaffirmons la valeur sacrée de chaque vie humaine. Le commandement de ne pas tuer ne se limite pas au Décalogue biblique. Il est inscrit dans le coeur de tout homme venant dans ce monde. Aucun motif, social, politique, ethnique, racial ou religieux ne peut justifier le meurtre d'innocents, dont le sang crie vengeance devant Dieu, devant celui qui jugera ceux qui auront les mains rougies du sang des pauvres, les préférés du Seigneur. Alors que nous réfléchissons sur la réconciliation, la justice et la paix, par l'intercession des saints africains, nous prions pour que la paix et la justice triomphent partout où elles sont bafouées, et pour que les coeurs s'ouvrent à la grâce de la réconciliation avec Dieu et le prochain, dans toute l'Afrique et pas seulement autour des Grands Lacs. This morning, at the beginning of the Seventeenth General Congregation, a letter from the presidents delegate and the secretary general of the Synod was read out to the assembly. The president delegate on duty was Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and the session was attended by the Pope and 217 Synod Fathers. The Sixteenth General Congregation of the Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops was held this morning in the presence of the Holy Father. During the session, the draft of the final message was presented and discussed, and a first round of voting for members of the post-synodal council took place. The session was attended by 212 Synod Fathers, and the president delegate on duty was Cardinal Theodore-Adrien Sarr, archbishop of Dakar, Senegal. More...

We, members of Justice, Peace and Development Department of SECAM, regional coordinators of Justice and Peace from ACEAC, ACERAC, AMECEA, CERAO, AHCE, IMBISA, CEDOI and Madagascar, gathered in Cairo from 1 to 5 September 2009 with representatives from CARITAS AFRICA, Catholic Relief Services and ASSOCIATION COMMUNITA PAPA GIOVANNI XXIII, and under the spiritual guidance of His Excellency Bishop Francisco Joao SILOTA, 2nd Vice President of SECAM and Head of the Justice, Peace and Development Department, His Beatitude the Patriarch Antonio NAGUIB of the Catholic Coptic Church of Egypt, and His Excellency Samuel KLEDA, Archbishop Co-adjudicator of Douala Cameroon, to reflect on reconciliation, justice and peace contribution to the 2nd African Synod.
